A colourful tone with great balance across all strings and a strong voice are the essential elements that comprise a fantastic guitar sound. My guitars are built in the traditional spanish method, which offers a great dynamic range, powerful basses, and sweet trebles. Together with a quick, responsive attack, I aim to build guitars that fulfill all the musical needs of an artist.
As a guitarist myself i understand the importance of great playability and comfort, and so i take great care to set up a guitar as well as i can. Particularly on a commissioned instrument, i can cater to the preferences and playing style of a musician to ensure that their instrument is both comfortable and suited to their particular playing. I aim for a consistently great sound & playability that lets the player express their musicality however they want.
My work and philosophy are influenced by the great Spanish makers of the 19th and 20th century. Santos Hernandez and Antonio de Torres in particular are strong influences. I am also inspired by the great José Romanillos and other fantastic luthiers such as Domingo Esteso, Manuel Ramirez, and countless others. Delving into the history of the craft is a continuous source of ideas and inspiration that shape my work. During my studies as a guitarmaker I was exposed to modern reasearch in acoustics, which has shaped some of the concepts and designs i have integrated into my instruments. I aim to make guitars that are in the long tradition of Spanish makers, while also offering a sound and aesthetic that is distinctly my own.
I currently offer 2 models: Classical and Flamenco. Check out the technical specs and details below:
Materials
Using traditional methods and materials, my guitars are built using a fan braced system. I use hide glue exclusively in all my glue joints, as i believe it is crucial to achieving a high level of quality and craftsmanship. For the finish I use a french polished spirit varnish in a shellac base, which enhances both the beauty and sound of the guitar while protecting it from eveyday wear and tear.
I tend to work almost exclusively with alpine spruce for the top, having access to some of the finest tonewood in the Swiss alps, though i also offer a selection of western red cedar. For the necks i use Spanish cedar with its wonderful aroma and properties for guitar necks. For the backs and sides i tend to work with Indian rosewood and Mediterranean cypress predominantly.
Marquetry and Rosettes
All of my rosettes, purflings and other inlays are handcrafted and designed by myself. A lengthy process that requires absolute precision in the preparation of veneers and glueing of components, I take pride on my distinctive designs and colour combinations. Inspired by the moorish art & architecture of spain, i am particularly intrigued and passionate about mosaic rosettes as a decorative centrepiece of the guitar.
